A DialCatz Den is your team’s own server for shared workspaces. Collections, folders and requests sync live between everyone’s DialCatz; environment names sync too, while each person’s values stay on their own computer. There are no member accounts and no passwords: the Den’s admin invites each device.
This page is the app side. To run a Den, see Install DialCatz Den.
The Team page
Team in the rail lists Servers you share collections through. No accounts: each server’s admin invites you. Press + Add server to join one.
Join a server
The admin gives you either an invite link or a token.
With an invite link
An invite link looks like dialcatz://connect?server=…&code=…, and each one works once, for one device.
- Click it (in a chat or an email) and DialCatz opens with Connect to this team server? — or
- paste it into + Add server → Invite link, then Continue.
The dialog shows the server’s address and checks it first: DialCatz Den <version> answered. Make sure the address is the one your team uses. Then:
- Fill in This device — a name the admin will see, for example Andi – MacBookAndi – office PC.
- Press Connect.
The one-time code is exchanged for your own token for this device. The admin sees the device name and can revoke this device alone — losing a laptop does not lock out your other devices.
With an address and token
If the admin made a token by hand in the Den’s admin panel, choose + Add server → Address and token: enter the
Server URL and the Token (it starts with dct_), then Connect.
Where your token is kept
Your token is kept in Keychain, never in DialCatz’s files. It belongs to you and this device only. It is the Keychain item DialCatz Den, one entry per server connection.
Your token is encrypted for your account with Windows’ protected storage (DPAPI) in DialCatz’s settings, never kept
as plain text. It is encrypted with DPAPI for your Windows account, one entry per server connection, and only the encrypted
form is stored, inside DialCatz’s data folder (%APPDATA%\DialCatz\config.json).
A server card
Each server you joined has a card with your photo or initials, name · email, and host · Device.
- Refresh reloads what the server offers.
- Disconnect — Its workspaces leave this computer (changes not synced yet are lost) and the token is removed.
Workspaces you can use lists the team workspaces your invite allows, each with your role and a Show in DialCatz checkbox. Untick one to hide it from the workspace picker without leaving the server.
Roles
| Role | Can |
|---|---|
| owner | Everything an editor can, plus rename the workspace for everyone. Deleting happens in the Den’s admin panel. |
| editor | Add, change and delete collections, folders, requests and environments. |
| viewer | Read and send requests, but not change them — tabs say View only. |
Working in a team workspace
Team workspaces appear in the workspace picker grouped by server host, with your role; the line under the name reads <host> · <role>. Everything else works as in a personal workspace.
What is shared and what stays on your computer
| Shared with the team | Stays on this computer |
|---|---|
| Collections, folders and requests (with auth, scripts and notes) | Files picked for multipart and binary bodies (paths are stripped) |
| Collection settings, such as Skip certificate checks | Variable values — unless you share them on purpose |
| Environment names, variable names, on/off and secret flags | Globals |
| History, and your sidebar arrangement (groups, favourites, sort) |
So a teammate opens the same requests, picks the same environment by name, and fills in their own token.
Auth values typed straight into a request are part of the request, so they are shared. Keep tokens in a secret
{{variable}} instead.
Live sync
- Changes arrive live: a teammate’s edit syncs at once, over a server-sent event stream. A check every 60 seconds is the fallback.
- Under the workspace picker: Synced <time ago>, or Sync failed, with Sync now to try again.
Presence
You can see who is looking at what: the initials of teammates who have the same request open show on its tab. DialCatz tells the Den when your open request changes, and every 30 seconds.
When two people change the same thing
- A request — both versions are kept. Yours becomes a new request next to the server’s, so no one’s work is lost.
- A folder, collection or environment — the server’s version wins in place, and yours is kept as a note. A bar says Changed by a teammate too (or N changes met a teammate’s) with Review. For each change choose Keep theirs or Use mine — Bring mine back if they deleted it — or Later.
Rename or delete a team workspace
- Owners can rename it for everyone: Rename for everyone… in the workspace menu, or Rename (for everyone) in the picker. Everyone sees the new name at once. This needs a Den that knows renaming from the app; an older one answers This DialCatz Den is older than renaming from the app: rename it in its admin panel, or update the server.
- Deleting it happens in the Den’s admin panel: Delete on DialCatz Den… opens it. From DialCatz itself, a team workspace can only be hidden (untick it on the Team page).
A team workspace cannot also be a folder workspace in Git. To move collections between the two, use Copy to workspace… — copying into a team workspace shares the collection with that team straight away.
Share environment values
By default every teammate fills in their own values. When the team does want the same ones — a shared staging URL, a test account — open the environment in Variables and press Share values…:
- Tick the variables whose values to share. Secrets start unticked, and ticking one shows a warning.
- Share. A snapshot of those values is stored on the Den.
Teammates then see Load shared values from <name>, with a preview of each variable — new, same, fills in or changes — before anything is loaded. The person who shared can Update the snapshot or Stop sharing. More in Environments and variables.
Run your own Den
The bottom of the Team page shows how to start one:
docker run -d -p 8080:8080 -v dialcatz:/data ghcr.io/catzoidhub/dialcatz-den
It keeps its data in SQLite inside the volume, or in PostgreSQL. The first visit to it in a browser creates the admin account. Copy copies the command; Guide opens Install DialCatz Den, which also covers HTTPS, Dokploy, invites and backups.
The Den’s admin panel has two-step sign-in, passkeys, optional Google and GitHub sign-in for admins, several admins, and an Auto / Light / Dark theme.
Troubleshooting
- “Not a DialCatz invite link” — the link must start with
dialcatz://connect?server=…&code=…. Each link works once and expires; ask the admin for a new one. - Sync failed — press Sync now. If it keeps failing, check that the Den answers (its address in a browser) and that your device has not been revoked; Refresh on the server card shows what the server still offers you.
- A workspace is missing — look on the Team page: it may be unticked under Workspaces you can use, or your invite may not include it.
- More on the server side: Install DialCatz Den → Troubleshooting.
