Draft. This policy is written in plain words and has not yet been reviewed by a lawyer. It describes what the site and the apps do today.
Catzoid is a family of free, open-source developer tools — DevCatz, DBCatz, DialCatz and DoCatz — and this website, catzoid.com. This policy covers both. “We” means the Catzoid project and its maintainer.
The apps
The apps run on your computer and keep your data there. They have no accounts and no advertising. Every network call they make on their own, and what it contains, is listed on what the apps send: public version lists from the projects whose software they install, and the update checks below.
AI features are off until you turn them on. When you use them, your request goes directly from your computer to the AI provider you chose, under that provider’s terms and privacy policy. It never passes through Catzoid.
DialCatz Den is software your team runs on its own server. We do not operate it, see its data or receive anything from it.
Update checks go to catzoid.com with the app’s version, its release channel and a random install id made on your Mac (not derived from your hardware, account or name). We keep, per day, how many checks each install made with which version — that is how we know which versions are in use. Check automatically in the app’s settings turns the automatic checks off.
Crash reports are off until you turn them on; each app asks once, after its first error. A report carries the error, where in the app it happened, the app and macOS versions, the architecture and the install id, scrubbed of tokens, keys, hosts, queries, data and file paths before it leaves your Mac. Feedback and bug reports are sent only when you press Send, with what the dialog shows you, and an email address only if you add one. Screenshots go only if you capture or attach them to a bug report (at most three, without metadata), are stored privately and are deleted after 90 days or when the report is closed.
The details, with an example of exactly what is sent: what the apps send.
The website
- No tracking. No advertising, no third-party cookies, no fingerprinting.
- Visitor counts without cookies. We may count page views with a cookie-free service (Cloudflare Web Analytics or a self-hosted Umami): which pages are read and from which country, never who you are, and no cookie is set.
- Server logs. Like any web server, ours and Cloudflare’s (which sits in front of it) handle your IP address and browser details to deliver pages and stop attacks. We do not use them to identify you.
- Download counts. When you download an app we count the download per version and platform, with the country Cloudflare reports and the site you came from. We do not store your IP address with it.
- Links to other services. The community, contact and donation links (Discord, Saweria, Trakteer and others) take you to those services, under their own terms and privacy policies.
- Admin area. Maintainers sign in with GitHub. That sets a session cookie, only for them.
Feedback you send us
When you send a crash report, a bug report or feedback, we keep what you sent — the message, the app version and platform, the install id, and an email address only if you added one — to fix problems and answer you. Only the maintainers can see it, in a private admin area. We keep it no longer than we need it, and you can ask us to delete it at any time.
Your rights
You can ask what we hold about you, to correct it or to delete it. Write to us through the contact on the community page. We will answer within 30 days.
Changes
We will change this page before any change in what we collect, and note the date at the top.
